A Special Gift: Kitten Artwork by my Former Foster Kittens

Kitten Artwork by Audrey and Clare

This blog post is something I have been sitting on for a few months and it literally got shoved to the bottom of the pile. It is a relief to finally write it because it’s such an upbeat and offbeat bit of news. A bit of background here, last spring I was very fortunate to care for two kittens (named at the time by me) named Cookie and Nermal. Cookie is a beautiful tortie kitten with a tortie personality and Nermal is a very beautiful grey tabby kitten.

Long story short after quarantine and a new best friendship they were spayed and put in a store where they were adopted together. Once in their new home Cookie became Audrey and Nermal was now Clare. Their new home had a dog named Maury who the kittens became best friends with. The poor dog ended up needing orthopaedic surgery and they tried to crowd fund the money for the surgery.

Knowing that my former foster kittens had a best friend in trouble I did my best to promote the crowd funding on my social media platforms. I hoped if I could get the word out it would help to raise some money for Maury so the kittens could get some more quality time with Maurice. I even talked to Pet Uno about it and they put the campaign on their Facebook page since it where they had been adopted from.

One of the things you could get for giving money was artwork done by the kittens. With some kid safe paint, a bathtub and a big post cleaning operation Audrey and Clare would play on the paper and create the artwork you see above. As a token of thanks I was given my very own kitten artwork. Each piece is one of a kind and I am thrilled to own some limited Audrey and Clare artwork.

I was very flattered to receive it and I wanted to share it because it is not something you get to see every day. I have blogged about this before but I never got to show off the end result. Maury did get his surgery and by all accounts the kittens are thrilled with their new friend. As of this writing I don’t know if they are still kittens because if they did not have their one year birthday yet then they will very soon.

Audrey and Clare (formerly known as Cookie and Nermal) are now artists. The painting above is art done by my former foster kittens. As you can see they are quite good at expressing themselves. Their owner artist describes the kitten’s creative process as follows:

They had a lot of fun with the painting – all non-toxic, kid-friendly materials, and they didn’t mind the post-painting wipe-down one bit. We dipped things like shoelaces and crumpled paper into the diluted paint and held them over the paper for the cats to bat at, creating some interesting abstract expressionism. Action painting at its best!

As mentioned earlier on the blog the kittens have a canine friend who needs surgery and the kittens have taken up painting as a way of helping to pay for the surgery. One of these beautiful kitten masterpieces costs only $15 Canadian. For the price of lunch you can have some beautiful kitten artwork to display by some beautiful kittens. You can buy the kitten artwork here: http://www.indiegogo.com/projects/maury-s-macular-spectacular

In case you are wondering what the kittens creative process looks like I wanted to include some photos of the kittens hard at work.

Nermal Posing

Here is another shot from Cookie and Nermal’s portrait session. Nermal is a very photogenic kitten and she always loved to pose for pictures. Here she is posing again for the camera.

These are some of the photos from Cookie and Nermal’s portrait session. The session worked great but after a little while the kittens decided they wanted to play.  I like this photo for Cookie’s expression as she get’s pinned by Nermal.

I love this photo simply because of Nermal’s facial expression. You can tell she is one determined kitten as she does her best to pin Cookie.

Cookie and Nermal the Kittens Need Your Help

I stumbled upon this, this morning and I thought I would mention it on the blog. My former foster kittens Audrey aka Cookie and Clare aka Nermal have a canine friend in their new home named Maury who requires $5000 worth of surgery. As you can see the kittens and the dog are the best of friends and it would be a shame to see anything happen to their new friend. The owner of Maury is is doing a crowdsourcing campaign to raise funds for Maury’s surgery.

For a mere $15 you can get an original Kitten composition. I don’t know what exactly the two kittens are capable of putting together for $15 but for $15 it’s worth the investment to see.

You can see the campaign here: http://www.indiegogo.com/projects/maury-s-macular-spectacular

Cleo and the Cat Tree

image

Several weeks ago I was given a cat tree to help entertain the cats. When I first got it Cleo wanted nothing to do with it. When it first arrived she gave it the sniffs it deserved and than went on with her life. At the time I had the two kittens Cookie and Nermal and they loved it. The cat tree is divided into three different levels. Cookie being the little diva she was always took the top tier and Nermal got the middle tier. Cookie loved to take swipes at Nermal from her position.

The kittens seemed to have an agreement that Nermal would not take the top tier. The odd time Nermal did usually resulted in Cookie climbing the tree to kick her off. I used the cat tree to take both the kittens adoption portraits. The reason I am writing this is because Cleo has recently decided she likes the cat tree. The middle tier is her favorite place to be.

I include a photograph of her on the tree. Just when you think you know your foster cat they always do something to surprise you.

Kittens Cookie and Nermal Adopted

image

I am thrilled to announce that kittens Cookie and Nermal have been adopted together. Totally thrilled that these two will get to live together. On one day they had two approved adoptors so Saturday was a good day for them. While it was possible to split them up the fact they had bonded so well meant they were going to be adopted as a pair. So thrilled they are not being split up.

I found out too that their new forever home comes with a dog. I really feel sorry for the dog. I am sure Cookie will learn how to dominate the dog and will establish herself as queen. I hope when they grow up Nermal stays larger then Cookie so she can keep her ego in check.

On Friday I paid them a visit which as it turns out will be my last time with them. I took this picture of them playing in the backroom of a pet store. You maybe can’t tell it from the photos but they are both getting a lot bigger. At the time I needed a cat toy so I improvised and used the strap from my camera bag.

Lots of love and luck to my two former foster kittens.

Nermal with Eye on the Prize

Decided to pay a visit to my two former foster kittens at the pet store where they are at waiting to be adopted. I needed a toy to play with them so I improvised and used the strap from my camera bag. Here is Nermal up a scratching post with her eyes on the strap waiting for a chance to get it.

Here is the other adoption photo I took of Nermal. As you can see she is so beautiful. I included this photo because it shows off her beautiful tabby fur pattern.

This is the official adoption portrait I created for Nermal. As you can see she is not only one very beautiful kitten but a photogenic one as well.
